Hong Kong Genome Institute​
Launched in 2021, HKGP focuses mainly on diseases and research cohorts that would benefit from WGS. They include undiagnosed diseases, hereditary cancers and cases related to genomics and precision health.
Eligible participants have to be referred by designated Partnering Centres to join the Project.
Depending on clinical and research needs, data collected from HKGP will be used for clinical applications. Anonymised data will be used for approved medical research under stringent scrutiny, enabling clinicians and scientists to better understand the relationship between genomes and different diseases. The knowledge and experience accumulated will play a crucial role in fostering future medical development in Hong Kong.
HKGI has set up Partnering Centres in three hospitals and four referring networks* under the Hospital Authority (HA), and is extending collaboration with other HA hospitals, to recruit eligible participants to join the Project:

Centre for Clinical Genetics and Genomics
CUHK clinical genetics clinic offers one-stop comprehensive clinical genetics service including genetics assessment, diagnostics genetics and genomic testing on genetic diseases, and pre-/post- genetics test counselling. Genetic counselling will help patients or families with a genetic disease or a rare disease to understand the necessity of the genetic test, the limitation of test, the nature of the disease, hereditary nature, the mode of inheritance, the risk of occurrence of the disease within the family, and the means of prevention; so that informed decisions are made in family planning.

Clinical Genetics Services
In 2016, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital (HKSH) launched the first clinical genetics service in local private sector. With genetic assessment, diagnosis and counselling from our clinical geneticist, patients and their family members can have a better understanding of hereditary diseases and related risks.
